The Veiqia Project exhibition opens in less than two weeks for the Auckland Arts Festival at AUT University’s ST PAUL St Gallery 3, a beautifully refurbished space located at 63 Wellesley Street, central Auckland.

For months now, this group of artists have been researching and learning about the Fijian practice of female tattooing; they have each interpreted the process into new work, and on March 15, the exhibition opens for a two week showing that will coincide with the Pacific Arts Association International Symposium, hosted by Auckland Museum.

We’ve all fielded questions in this process and so many people are keen to know, what were the motifs used and what did they mean.

Come check out this exhibition and find out what our tattooed herstories mean to us as Fijian women, and why meaning and motifs are embedded and protected, treasured and questioned…
